Abstract
This paper describes a noval Fourier transform zonal filter for digital image compression. The filter is termed an asteroid filter due to its association with a group of special plane curves found in geometry. By incorporating pattern recognition the filter can be further modified into a simple adaptive zonal filter.-Authors
