Abstract
This paper begins with a brief historical review of AIDC and RFID. Then, the relative merits of active and passive RFID systems and their significances in the era of information technology are compared and contrasted. Finally, a semi-active RFID system for hospitals is designed and its characteristics are discussed for illustrative purposes. ©2009 IEEE.
