Alvar Aalto and his three Italian collaborators : cultural cross-pollination and architectural legacy

This article delves into the synergistic relationship between Alvar Aalto and his three Italian collaborators: Leonardo Mosso, Federico Marconi, and Vezio Nava. By examining their contributions, experiences, and professional trajectories, the paper sheds light on the significance of the Italian influence on the Finnish architect and challenges misconceptions surrounding the organisation of his architectural studio. Interviews with the three Italian architects provide insights into their early interest in Aalto's work, the trajectories that brought them to Finland, and their roles within the atelier. The article also explores the process behind Aalto's architectural projects, emphasising his approach to nurturing creativity and his collaborative and empowering nature.
