Abstract
Algal food is showing promise as the next superfood trend, not as a primary ingredient but as a supplement to improve health. Results show that it can help treat a number of ailments, including depression, cancer, cardiovascular disease and brain injuries and can play a major role in foetal development during pregnancy. Sufficient proof that nanomaterials can alter plant growth, phenological development, grain formation and crop yield attractively due to their unique properties differ from their larger counterparts. Tropical forests cannot be maintained unless other kinds of food resources are successfully explored, especially those with beneficial effects on human health. In order to feed the projected population of the mid-21st century even at present levels, not to mention a level approaching that of developed countries, new sources of food will be required in most countries. The consequences of successfully cultivated algal food with enough nutrients to meet daily requirements are significant. Therefore, the potential of nanotechnologies for algal food with eco-effects is marked. Studies suggest that research and development in green nanotechnology for algal food will provide a relatively safer way. Meanwhile, the advancement of nanotechnology - given that the application of nanomaterials is relatively new in the field of algal food - still needs further investigation, especially on the effects of toxicity of nanomaterials on humans.
