    Abstract

Indoor gymnasium has become one of the favourite venues for indoor sport activities in Hong Kong. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program EXACT3/CONTAM3 was applied to investigate the temperature distribution, air movement and CO2 dispersal within an air-conditioned gymnasium with four different exhaust positions. It was found that position of exhaust air outlet had significant effects on the thermal comfort and ventilation effectiveness, in terms of air diffusion performance index (ADPI) and overall relative ventilation efficiency, respectively. The ADPI varied from 51 to 96%, and the overall relative ventilation efficiency from 0.14 to 0.39.
