Abstract
After graphene, MXenes are the most studied 2D nanosystems over the last 12 years. Because of exceptional characteristics, MXene materials have been extensively investigated for numerous applications, including biomedical, water purification, hydrogen production, catalysis, energy storage, space engineering, defense, EMI shielding, etc. Among such diverse application fields, MXenes displayed promising applications in two key applications, i.e., supercapacitors and EMI shielding applications. In recent times, MXene-polymer composites with enhanced electrical conductivity, high surface area, and good mechanical flexibility have been reported expressively for the above-mentioned applications. The current review article summarizes the latest advancements of MXene-polymer composites by bridging two apparently disparate applications: supercapacitor and EMI shielding applications. Looking into the rapid progress in such a topic, a timely update is highly essential. While most of the existing review articles emphasize such applications discretely, the current article provides a comparative analysis of the fundamentals, material design strategies, and performance evaluation across both research fields instantaneously. Additionally, the scalable synthetic approaches and characteristics of such materials are also briefly discussed. The article also identifies the existing challenges and suggests future research directions for developing efficient and versatile MXene-polymer composites. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd.
