Abstract

Active learning space is a student-centred environment that supports active learning activities and is promoted by the higher education community in recent years. A transformable active learning space, Gateway Education Laboratory (GE Lab), is established in 2013 to support a variety of non-traditional teaching and learning tasks that aim to broaden students’ interdisciplinary knowledge under the Gateway (General) Education Programme. The GE Lab comprises a highly configurable layout and is equipped with advanced educational technologies. Course leaders mutually agree that the GE Lab is a better learning environment, as compared to traditional classrooms, and has positive effect on student attitudes. Students from different disciplines have work together and made use of the interactive learning spaces and equipment to develop innovative projects. Some of their achievements have gained international recognition.
