Abstract

Video objects exhibit temporal behavior and are inter-related via real-time constraints. In this paper, we present the design of the 4DIS real-time temporal database system and its feasibility in supporting video applications. The 4DIS framework has three fundamental constituents: a temporal database model, a temporal query language, and a constraint specification and enforcement component. We illustrate that a temporal database model is crucial in modeling video objects, while a temporal query language is important in supporting video manipulation requirements. In addition, the constraint specification and enforcement component provides capabilities for specifying and enforcing constraints imposed by video applications.
