N2 - Inductive power transfer (IPT) to a vehicle which is moving along the road can provide maximum charging flexibility and huge weight and size reduction in charge-storage battery inside the vehicle. Existing research focuses on the efficiency improvement of the energy coupling of the pickup windings with a long current-carrying primary track without considering track distance. In this paper, a IPT vehicle charging system using a series of sectional tracks is studied. The relationship between efficiency and track distance is reported. Results are verified by a reduced scale experimental prototype. © 2011 IEEE.
