Abstract
An effective and efficient ranking method which can assist the decision makers to select the “best” general material supplier for builder’s works plays an important role in the business success of construction companies. In this paper, a critical review of four leading ranking methods applicable to selection of two types of construction material supplier for builder’s works is provided. First, the characteristics of the elected methods are discussed. Second, critical comments related to the methods’ capability and limitation are provided. Third, the characteristics of elected materials are defined. Finally, appropriate ranking methods are selected for each of the specified material. The results of this review suggest that not only the ranking method, but also the decision maker’s knowledge on his work has a significant effect on selecting the best supplier.
