Abstract
Asynchronous remote procedure call (ARPC) is an remote procedure call where the client will not be blocked waiting for the result. ARPC is very suitable for mobile environment due to its asynchronous nature. ARPC, however, cannot become a reliable and efficient communication method unless the problems, such as handoff and disconnection of mobile hosts, are solved. This paper proposes an ARPC architecture, which is enhanced by several features that aim at avoiding packet lose during handoff, supporting for disconnection and minimizing communication overheads. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
