A Quarter-Wave U-Shaped Patch Antenna with Two Unequal Arms for Wideband and Dual-Frequency Operation

Abstract

The combination of the techniques using the unequal arms with U-shaped patch and the shorting wall for the design of compact broadband and dual-frequency patch antennas were described. A technique was proposed to obtain two staggered resonant modes to achieve a wide impedance bandwidth using two unequal arms of the U-shaped patch. The bandwidth of the inner feed patch was increased so that both frequency bands were in wideband operation. The proposed antenna was simple in structure compared with the coplanar parasitic or regular stacked patch antennas and was relatively easy to fabricate.
