    Abstract

The effect of thermal ageing on the magnetic susceptibility of a duplex stainless steel has been studied. This property has been used to develop a temperature indicator for hostile environments called Sigmaplug. The Sigmaplug had undergone plant trial in a power plant boiler and has been demonstrated to be a promising and feasible technique for identifying hot spots in power plant boilers.
