Abstract
Efficient spectral utilization is an important factor to be concerned for data transmission in wireless networks with precious channel capacity. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid ARQ scheme that exploits the spectral efficiency over wireless additive white Gaussian noise channels by using the concatenated two-state trellis-coded modulation (TCM) as the underlying coding scheme. Different from traditional TCM-based hybrid ARQs that repeat the same TCM codeword in all retransmissions, our proposed ARQ scheme uses different punctured parts of a TCM code in retransmission. We demonstrate by simulations that the proposed method can achieve significantly improved coding gain over the repetition method and higher throughput than other existing schemes. © 2005 IEEE.
