Abstract

TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) has extended its reach to the wireless realm in that it has also been used widely in all sorts of wireless environments. However, the congestion control approaches designed for wired TCP or even some wireless situations are not effective enough. We propose a new explicit congestion control (ECN) strategy - Differentiated Marking, which works by using a two-way approach to further reduce the time required for the sender and the receiver to note the congestion problem, possibly induced by too heavy traffic or burst errors caused by the time-varying channel quality.
