Abstract

Ground coupled heat pump (GCHP) is a clean and energy-saving approach to provide air conditioning and domestic hot water. For the building with dominant heating load, more heat is extracted from the soil and thermal imbalance is becoming a crucial problem to reduce the efficiency and impede wide application of GCHP. Due to the disadvantages of the existing solutions, a GCHP system integrated with air-water heat exchanger (AHE-GCHP) is proposed and simulated to investigate its performance in this paper. AHE can not only compensate heat into the ground but also supply heat for space heating and domestic hot water in different modes through fully using the energy in air with the average COP range from 4.49 to 15.09. AHE-GCHP system keeps the thermal balance well, and saves 23.86% energy compared with traditional "boiler + split air conditioner", and costs less than half compared with "hybrid GCHP assisted with solar collector".
