Abstract

A three-dimensional Lie algebra is constructed to establish two isospectral problems whose compatibility condition generates a new integrable-soliton hierarchy of equations which is called generalized BPT hierarchy. An equivalent Lie algebra corresponding to the three-dimensional Lie algebra is given for deducing the Hamiltonian structure of the equation hierarchy by use of the quadratic-form identity. © 2008 IOP Publishing Ltd.
