Abstract

A Dual-Polarized high gain wideband gradient refractive index (GRIN) lens antenna operating at 10GHz is proposed. The lens is based on metamaterial composing of cross-shaped metallic slots to develop a wideband GRIN. The symmetric structure of the metamaterial contributes to realizing the desired gradient indexes in two orthogonal polarizations. For validating the performance of the lens, a dual-polarized Vivaldi antenna is implemented as the feeding source of the proposed meta-lens. The proposed antenna achieved a gain of 15dB at 10GHz and wide bandwidth of 60% (7-13 GHz). Due to the x- and y-symmetric design of the proposed lens, the adoption of a dual-polarized source is validated with the isolation of 30dB. With the attractiveness of dual-polarization and low-profile design of 0.32\lambda _{0}, the proposed antenna is a good candidate for microwave and millimeter-wave communication.
