Abstract
A differentially fed magneto-electric dipole antenna is proposed. It is not only simpler in structure, but also better in performance than previous designs. Measurement results showed that the proposed antenna could achieve an impedance bandwidth of 92% (0.80 GHz to 2.16 GHz) for a differential reflection coefficient less than -10 dB, and a 1 dB gain bandwidth of 77% (0.83 GHz to 1.88 GHz). The maximum gain at broadside was 7.7 dBi. The radiation pattern was unidirectional and stable within the operating bandwidth. Due to the symmetry of the structure and the excitation, the radiation pattern was symmetric with respect to both the E plane and the H plane. The cross-polarization level and back radiation were lower than -25 dB and -19 dB, respectively. © 1990-2011 IEEE.
