Abstract

A template technique is presented as another approach to fully covalent crystalline networks. In this technique, a metal salt is co-crystallized with a mesoscopic organic molecule. In the resultant crystal, metal-ligand coordination bonds force the organic molecules into the desired channel topology. A reactive non-metallic cross-linking agent is then diffused into the channels. The resultant solid is insoluble in all organic solvents tested but retains its channel structure.
