Abstract
A comparative study on the performance characteristics between the variable switching frequency scheme (VFS) and variable voltage scheme (VVS) was carried out. By using the fundamental-frequency model and the nonlinear lamp resistance characteristics, the steady state solution and starting voltage characteristics were derived. It was shown that the VVS has several operational advantages over the VFS in dimming operation.
