Abstract

The general requirements in the construction of demand forecasting schemes are discussed, followed by a comparative study, based on seven year data, of conventional extrapolative techniques and univariate stochastic time series modelling methods in forecasting monthly energy and peak power demands. The performance of each forecasting approach is evaluated in terms of adequate data characterization and ability to project data behaviour into the future, and a method for selecting a preferred forecasting model is explained.
