Abstract

In this paper, a chaos-based secure voice communication system is designed over User Datagram Protocol (UDP). The voice signal is encrypted by a stream cipher in which a fast 32-bit chaos-based pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) is embedded. The chaos-based PRNG consists of two parts, namely bit-generating and mixing, in order to generate a pseudo-random key stream. The randomness is verified with the up-to-date statistical testing suite. Together with the high sensitivity on the system parameters and the initial conditions of the chaotic maps, the encrypted voice signals are difficult to be eavesdropped. The proposed chaos-based encryption scheme is demonstrated to be simple and fast, with a throughput about three times that of DES. © 2005 IEEE.
