Abstract

Nowadays, in the microgrids and energy storage systems, the ultrahigh step-up gain converters are often needed to realize the power conversion between low-voltage input source and high-voltage DC bus. In this paper, a β-type ultrahigh-gain boost converter (β-UGBC) is proposed for the first time, and the β-UGBC can achieve (4/1-2D) ultrahigh voltage gain with simple structure, here D is the duty cycle of the switch. Firstly, the operational principle of the β-UGBC circuit is introduced, following, the voltage and current stresses of all components are analyzed and compared with those of the ultrahigh step-up converters in literature. Moreover, the real voltage gain and efficiency of the β-UGBC converter with considering the stray parameters and power losses are analyzed. Finally, the correctness and the advantages on low stresses and low cost of the β-UGBC are demonstrated by circuit simulation. Therefore, this paper provides a new topology for the application with the ultrahigh step-up gain requirement. © 2024 IEEE.
