Abstract

A series of 1,1′-binaphthyl-containing polyfluorenes were synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction. All of the polymers were characterized and had shown good thermal stability and photoluminescent efficiency. By incorporating 1,1′-binaphthyl unit into polyfluorenes, an improved blue PL emission was obtained from P1F3B that contains 25% of fluorene unit and 75% 1,1′-binaphthyl unit as compared with other polyfluorenes. When a hole transporting layer (HTL) of bis-di-BuTPD-Si-PFCB was employed, an optimized double layer device with P3F1B as the emissive layer demonstrated a turn-on voltage of 6.5 V and a very high external quantum efficiency of 1.0% was achieved. A bright purple blue EL emission reached its maximum luminance of 3070 cd/m2.
