鄉土社會中的面子: 對福建古田地區壽宴習俗的分析

Face takes a sovereign position in Chinese people's mind, especially in those country societies with rich traditional tinge. Many people's behaviors are driven by the concept of face. By winning the face, people can get the recognition and respect by others hence to win the social status of individuals or family. There is custom of holding birthday feast during Spring Festival in Gutian County, Fujian Province. Observing the whole process of holding a birthday party by local people with qualitative method, we can find the significance of face in the small town.
