Abstract
Architectural Production in China’s design institutes presents a dualist structure -- a combination of large-scale production characterized with collective collaboration and efficiency and restricted production characterized with individual exploration and cultural innovation. This mixed structure is determined by the internal logics of design institutes, which was responsible both for the construction of physical environment and cultural production. The history of design institutes reveals their internal conflict and contradiction in the process of evolution.
