Abstract
This paper discusses the crisis of visual perception caused by traditional metaphysical views that diminish its vitality, advocating for its liberation to reconnect with the physical world. It explores the concept of symbolic death stemming from dualistic thinking by philosophers like Plato, which has led to a fragmented understanding of visual culture. They emphasize the need to overcome binary oppositions and challenge traditional logocentric models to address the crisis in visual culture. Using examples from films like "The End of the Century," the paper illustrates the complex relationship between viewer and viewed, advocating for a nuanced approach to understanding visual culture and perception.
