Abstract
Since the art teachers and students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong organized open studios events in 2001, there has been a rise of artistic activities in the industrial buildings in Fo Tan. Many artists moved in, forming a local art community. Having been organized for 19 years, “Fotan Open Studios” can be considered a long-lived artist-initiated event in Hong Kong. Man Ching-ying Phoebe has participated in the event ten times since 2009, but have never been an organizer. With the help of documents, research, interviews and participant observation, etc, she discusses how in recent years the event organization model of Fotan Open Studios has continued to bring artists in the district together to promote art, forming an art community.
