Abstract

Based on the two key assumptions from the perspective of the nature history of social problems which originated from western research, that is "social phenomena becoming social problems has gone through stages of development" and "people or organizations from the society will give response to the social problems during the process", this paper refines the existing model and proposes a new research model to study social problems, which is called the Social Response Model. This paper then applies the development history of young adolescents running away from home in China to test the applicability of the new Social Response Model in China. The findings indicate that since 1980s to early 21st century the issue of young adolescents/ running away from home in China has gone through six stages of development and different people/s response in the society to this issue during the process, but the social response and the related research on social response is still lacking. This paper further proposes the direction of future research in China.
