Abstract
Will you believe epidemic-related rumors more, if someone you know or someone in the same area is infected with 2019-nCov? And what media channels will affect the rumor’s trust? In this study, we have explored the relationship among proximity, media channels and rumor’s trust during the 2019-nCov epidemic. Collecting data from a online survey on a network platform Databnu, we finally got 813 effective responses from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu. Results showed that there is no direct effect between proximity and rumor’s trust but revealed that an indirect effect significantly mediated by the channel of interpersonal communication. In addition, in the correlations between media channels and rumor’s trust, news media was found negatively correlated with rumor’s trust while interpersonal communication and social media both were positively correlated with rumor’s trust. Education, age and rumor’s trust are all negatively correlated.
