Abstract
Wandering Star, the masterpiece of French writer Le Clezio's novel, tells the story of Esther, a Jewish girl, against the backdrop of the Second World War. The novel mixes the elements of desire, waiting, death and religion, exploring the complex human nature under the "death and life". This paper focuses on analyzing the causes of the characters' self-perception barriers in Wandering Star, exploring the influence of national identity, family identity, and religious identity on individual self-perception. We attempt to take self-cognition as the starting point to reveal the humanistic concern in Le Clézio's works so as to help Chinese readers understand the humanitarian connotation in his masterpiece.
