Abstract
Objective To understand the current status of induced abortion among female college students and to discuss its related intervention measures. Methods A self-designed questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,500 female undergraduate students randomly selected from colleges and universities in Hangzhou from May 2015 to April 2018. Results The awareness rate of female college students was significantly higher among those with sexual experiences compared to those without for medication abortion(χ2=1.566, P=0.211), forceps curettage(χ2=7.020, P=0.008) and negative pressure aspiration(χ2=7.419, P=0.008). However, the awareness rate of female college students with no sexual experiences were significantly higher in abortion related secondary infertility(χ2=8.012, P=0.005), habitual abortion(χ2=20.814, P=0.000), the impact of induced abortion on physical health(χ~2=6.229, P=0.013)and, mental health(χ2=25.587, P=0.000), and relationship(χ2=6.834,P=0.009). Only 40.33% of female college students took contraceptive actions during sexual intercourses. Conclusions Not every female college student is fully clear about the abortion methods, potential diseases caused by abortion, contraceptive methods. Health education should be strengthened in female college students to reduce the incidence of induced abortion.
