Abstract

Population development is related to great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. In 2023, China’s total fertility rate droped to 1.01, far below the level of 2.1 which necessary for normal population replacement. Currently, China has seen a declining birthrate and a aging trend, which is mainly caused by the doubling child-raising cost, inadequate support for women in the workplace, social transformation, economic fluctuation and so on. In order to avoid falling into the “low fertility trap”, the national government should establish and improve fertility support policies as soon as possible, continuously stimulate young people’s birth willingness, solve their problems in child-raising, and relieve their burden; the society should actively cooperate with relevant departments to create childbirth-friendly units, families, medical insurance and communities; individuals should seize the best opportunity to have children and keep positive and healthy childbirth values and mentality.
