Abstract

Using a multi - city survey of citizen satisfaction in Guangdong Province, this study shows that public satisfaction with government is related to government - reported performance statistics. However, these variables' impacts on citizen satisfaction vary by policy areas, and some of them are contingent upon the perceived transparency of the government and individuals' personal setting such as education attainment. Overall, transparency is substantially more impactful on citizen perception, and its positive impact can outweigh the negative impact of certain performance information. However, it depends on the citizen's trust in the government - reported information.
