Abstract
After World War II, some southbound intellectuals immigrated into Hong Kong due to the change of regime in Mainland China. They established many Chinese post- secondary colleges to promote the development of Chinese higher education in Hong Kong. In Cold War period, for the consideration of colonial rule, the British Hong Kong Government decided to incorporate New Asia College, Chung Chi College and United College to found a Chinese University. But southbound intellectuals thought that this Chinese University could be used to transform Hong Kong from a colony to a center of Chinese culture. Their anti-incorporation made the Chinese University became a contradiction. This paper will explain the complexity of Hong Kong colonial rule by analyzing the incorporation and anti-incorporation.
