Abstract
Based on the data collected from the county town of Anxi, Siming and Tongan Districts of Xiamen, this paper analyses the composition and differences of social capital of the residents and finds that the great differences between fatal and urban areas. Firstly, the extent of rural residents' association and participation are lower and the number of this participation is less than those of urban residents, which are caused by the big gap of social and economic development between these areas. Secondly, the degree of trust in relatives, dose friends and acquaintances for rural residents is higher than that of urban residents, which is the result of differences between the respective social structures. Thirdly, the differences between norms of reciprocity of the residents can be attributed to the differences between urban and rural communities to a great degree.
