Abstract

The outbreak of COVID-19 has prompted planning scholars and practitioners to rethink the resilience of urban planning in response to public health events. As an important element of health in cities, green spaces can improve the urban environment, enhance public health and provide emergency spaces. The origin of urban green space construction is closely related to public health issues, but in recent decades the focus has shifted to non-communicable diseases, and insufficient attention has been paid to research on the role of green space in preventing and fighting epidemics. Therefore, focusing on the urban green space system, this paper systematically combed through the development history of urban green space at home and abroad, as well as relevant cases and literature, to clarify the important role of urban green space in "comprehensive epidemic prevention" and "emergency response"; and to respond to epidemics, we pointed out the multifaceted problems of the existing concept, layout and lack of facilities in China’s urban green space system planning. Finally, it proposes the following planning strategies: (1) emphasize the goal of prevention and fight against epidemics and strengthen synergy with disaster prevention planning; (2) pay attention to the systematic layout of urban green spaces and increase the inclusion of indicators related to epidemic prevention; (3) build a comprehensive green space function unit for emergency shelter and prevention, and fight against epidemics that is compatible with the 15-minute living circle.
