Abstract
＂Professionalization＂ has recently become a key word at Chinese interpreting forums. The professionalization of interpreting is a systematic process. The measures of its development include interpreters＇ professional level, application of professional skills, deCelopment of the professional market, professional standards and certification, as well as professional training and education. Taking these into account, we conducted a survey on the current development of interpreting in Shanghai and Jiangsu Province, seeking not only to describe the statu~ of interpreting in the area, but also to propose an approach to the study of the issue.
