Abstract
The construction industry is experiencing an increasing labor shortage and an ageing workforce; and identifying the key factors limiting their level of competence can help to extend the working life of workers. The Work Ability Index ( WAI) is used to quantify the work ability of workers. By using WAI questionnaire designed for building workers, a survey is carried out in 8 construction sites in Tongzhou District, Daxing District, Fangshan District and Fengtai District in Beijing. It is designed to explore the factors affecting the working ability of construction workers in Beijing from the perspective of personal factors and work-related factors. The results show that quality reflection, smoking year, age, sleep quality and physical exercise are the important factors influencing the working ability of construction workers. In addition, sleeping quality is a mediating factor among emotional health, psychological need, company support, colleague support and WAI. Besides, physical exercise is a mediating factor between emotional health, corporate support and WAI. Above research results provide reference for the recruitment, training, and management of construction workers in Beijing.
