Abstract
VV nominals are heterogeneous in compositions and structures.The category shift of VV nominals experienced three stages:verbal morpheme > verb > noun. Three mechanisms are involved in the category shifting process of VV nominals: syntactic mechanism,semantic mechanism and cognitive mechanism.It is also found that the category shifting process of VV nominals are motivated by semantic system,cognitive mechanism and semantic innovation.
