Abstract

According to Lu Shuxiang’s discussion about semantic intuition, we can further classify semantic intuition into two kinds: (1) semantic intuition in a narrow sense is sensitivity to “the meaning of a word”, (2) rhetoric intuition is sensitivity to “the colour of a word”, for example, the sensitivity of knowing that the word “綠” in “春風又綠江南岸” is a better rhetoric choice. This research involved conducting a structured questionnaire survey of 200 subjects to measure their rhetoric intuition. The results indicated that the correlation coefficient between the performance of rhetoric intuition and the performance of Chinese in public examinations is 0.187, which is a low correlation. T test analysis showed that the performance of rhetoric intuition by subjects who liked reading literature was significantly higher than that of subjects who did not like reading literature.
