Abstract
Methods that translator reproduces poetic images of the original works are studied when translating them into the target language, on the grounds of Wang Fuzhi’s aesthetic definition of “poetic image” together with its four characteristics, that is, unity, authenticity, polysemy, and originality. In conclusion, the unity is believed to be crucial for how to translate poetic images; the authenticity could give testimony to their translatability; the polysemy is able to ascertain the contents as well as the form in which they might be manifested after translation; the originality would provide reasons for the “freshness” of the target text.
