The Scientist voice: Mapping Career Paths and Educational Beliefs to Improve Science Teaching and Student Pathways

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This STEM education project investigates how scientists' learning experiences shape their career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Using surveys and in-depth interviews with practicing STEM professionals, the study collects quantitative and qualitative data on science learning environments, hands-on laboratory experiences, mentorship in research settings, and critical career decision points. The educational value lies in translating these findings into evidence-based recommendations for STEM teaching, inquiry-based curriculum design, and student career awareness in STEM fields. Outputs include an interview archive, thematic analysis, STEM educator recommendations, and a lay-audience book. By grounding STEM education insights in scientists' real-life narratives, the project directly supports improved STEM learning and diverse pathways into scientific and technical careers.
