Project Details
Description
Over the past decade, a “northbound movement” has gained momentum in the
realm of Hong Kong literature. This movement involves more and more Hong Kong
writers who publish their works in Mainland and/or move to reside there. Prime
examples are Liang Wendao, Chen Guanzhong and Liao Weitang, whose popularity
in Mainland is on the rise. This project offers a thorough and critical study on this
novel cultural phenomenon by investigating its contributing factors, and exploring
the reorientation of Hong Kong writers as they head north. In terms of methodology,
it relies on both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including a survey, focus
group discussions, interviews as well as textual analysis. Academically, the project
aims to contribute to scholarly discussions of the relationship between Hong Kong
literature and Chinese literature. Practically, its results will offer insights for Hong
Kong cultural policies.
