Project Details

Description

In the production of Lithium polymer batteries, it is important to pay particula sealing in order to have a good packaging. A good sealing is not only to ensure the cell performance, but also to protect the parent machine and the user from leak ge of electrolyte which may cause safety problems.A three-part project is proposed in this research in order to improve the sealing qualities in polymer cell batteries. In part I of the project, the sources and mechanisms for cell leakage will be identified and hence suitable schemes can be developed to solve the problem. In Part II of this project, research will be focused on improving the interfacial bonding between the lead tab (metal) and the sealant materials (polymeric materials) in polymer cells. Finally, base on results obtained from Parts I and II of the study, protocol for the development and manufacture of lithium polymer batteries will be draftred and implemented.Lithium polymer batteries have found wide spread applications in our daily Iives, and therefore a durable and safe design is urgently needed. Lithium polymer battery of high quality is undoubtedly beneficial to the productivity in many industrial sector in Hong Kong.
