Smart Pig Farming: Animal Management Using Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence - RMGS
DescriptionThe primary objective of this project is to develop an expert system using the state-of-the-art computer vision technologies and artificial intelligence for pig farm monitoring and management, with special focus on automated monitoring and assessment of pig behaviour and health conditions. This project has three specific objectives, namely, to 1) develop and validate deep learning algorithms based on computer vision technologies to accurately detect lameness of finishing pigs or sows at an earlier stage for efficient lameness treatment, 2) detect aggressive behaviours among finishing pigs or sows in large group finishing or gestation pens for improved herd management, and 3) detect early behavioural symptoms of infectious diseases among finishing pigs or sows at an earlier stage for timely disease prevention, control, and treatment. With the development and continued improvement of this expert system, the overarching goal of this project is to provide a viable solution to facilitate pig farm management with regards to animal health, behaviour, welfare, early disease prevention, and ultimately improve production and reproductive performance and therefore economic viability and sustainability.
