Sino-Japanese Relations: The Subnational Dimension

China and Japan have a long and complex relationship. Far too often studies of that relationship have focused on the national-level ties or on episodic complications. This study is the first to look below the surface at provincial and municipal authorities as well as civil society actors. Drawing on both Chinese and Japanese language sources, this project will be able to present a carefully nuanced analysis otherwise absent from the existing literature.
