Description

SEE has a number of Energy and Environmental related researches that involve synthesis, innovative design and development of materials, for example, novel nanomaterials for gas capturing and energy conversion technologies (solar and battery applications), membrane science for water purifications, and nano-scale porous materials for environmental photocatalysis. To strengthen our research performances, a high-resolution FE-SEM with EDS is required. We propose to acquire the Carl Zeiss - Sigma 300 instrument. With this FE-SEM, topographical and elemental evidences at magnification up to 1,000,000 can be be obtained and fine and sharp images with spatial resolution down to half nm scale could be easily acquired. Moreover, this FE-SEM can provide us the ability to examine minor area contamination spots at high electron accelerating voltages utilizing EDS. The high-quality and low-voltage helps imaging with slight electrical charging on samples, preventing charge corrosion. The instrument can also strengthen SEE’s long-term hardware capacity in conducting various researches. The matching fund will be used to partially support the purchase of the instrument.
