Description
There are many wireless portable electronic devices, including mobile phones, personal
digital assistants, and notebooks with wireless LAN, being widely used by the general
public. Some of these devices are expected to be worn or attached closely to the human
body. The IEEE 802.15 Task Group 6 is developing a communication standard for the
next generation Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) that consists of a set of mobile
and compact intercommunicating sensors are also either wearable or implanted into the
human body. In view of these trends, the concern for human safety is well expected to be
extended to the whole body for personal wireless devices, rather than limiting it to the
human head, as in mobile phone applications.Numerical modeling approach, for assessment of human safety due to radio frequency
interference has played an important role in SAR compliance of the latest wireless
communication devices. Numerical modeling to evaluate the SAR of the whole human
body requires an extremely large amount of computer memory and computational time.
The fractional phantom head approach used in mobile phone applications is found to be
an effective approach to reducing computer memory and computational time in SAR
evaluation by the Principle Investigator of this project; the aim of this project is to
extend the concept of using the fractional head model to the fractional body model for
SAR evaluation.
